Dog Chews
Chew toys are going to save your sanity and your house. We highly recommend having several varieties of chew toys for your dog! This is not an exhaustive list, but it is a good place to start!
- Nylabones – these are safe, hard chew toys. Because the entire bone is generally not consumed in one day, I find this to be a safe chew toy. Nylabone even makes puppy safe versions of the adult version. Be sure to purchase the right type of toy for your puppy’s age.
- Benebones – these are similar to nylabones, as being a safe, hard chew toy, which will last for weeks to months depending on your dog’s chew style. Benebone also makes puppy safe versions of the adult version. Be sure to purchase the right type of toy for your puppy’s age.
- Buffalo Horns – since bull horns are made out of keratin, which is essentially compact hair, this chew almost acts as a toothbrush as the dog chews on it. This is also a slightly softer chew than the previously mentioned toys.
- Kongs – these rubber toys can be filled will food, which can help occupy your pup, but also provide a soothing chew, especially when teething. Kong makes various types of toys for size and age of dogs. They specifically make puppy versions, while also include their regular rubber toys and black kongs for super chewers.
- Beef Tendons – these can be chewed on quickly if you have larger dogs, but are great for puppies!
- Rough Dawg Toys – these toys have not been destroyed by Staffordshire Bull Terriers or Portuguese Water Dogs. Oh and they FLOAT!!!! They are HIGHLY recommended for heavy chewers and if you are lazy and do not want to clean up stuffing and dead toys all the time.
- Cow Hooves – These are a great long lasting chew option for heavy chewers. You will need to throw them away when you notice they get too small though.
Supplies
While some of these products might seem expensive, they generally last a very long time or actually work! It is our opinion that it is better to spend a little more money on products that actually work or last a long time.
- Martingale Collars – Also called Limited Slip collars. These are great for all breeds of dogs. It keeps dogs from being able to “slip” out of their collars.
- K9 Balance Harness – This is my absolute favorite harness!!! It adjusts on all straps, which makes fitting it on odd shaped bodies so much easier. I also love the chest attachment, which makes teaching loosh leash walking easier. The 1/2″ – 3/4″ webbing makes the harness much cooler in hot weather, plus it keeps matting down in long hair dogs.
- ThunderEase (aka Adaptil) – The products come in several varities, such as a diffuser, travel spray, or collar. This dog appeasing pheromone helps ease anxiety. Please follow the directions carefully!
- There is a Cat version too! It’s called Feliway. We recommend using it in the same room as the litterbox or using the spray or wipes in the carrier prior to transporting the cat to the veternarian.
- Zylkene for Small Dogs – This is a supplement for dogs that helps with anxiety.
- Zylkene for Large Dogs – This is a supplement for dogs that helps with anxiety.
- Pet Geek – Remote Treat Dispenser
- Best Shot Shampoo System – Affordable, professional Shampoo & Conditioning system for all hair coats.
- Slicker Brush – High quality and comfortable brush for several breeds of dogs. This is a type of brush NEEDS to be a comfortable for your dog. Please invest in a good, safe brush for your dog. Colleen has had one of these brushes since 2012.
- Pin Brush – High quality and comfortable brush for several breeds of dogs. This type of brush NEEDS to be comfortable for your dog and is great for long haired dogs when used in combination of other brushes. Colleen has had one of these brushes since 2012.
- Uradicator – Urine Odor & Stain Remover. This product is great for cleaning up diarrhea and vomit as well. Colleen has used this product since 2021 and will use nothing else! While it can be a bit pricier than other products, it is absolutely fabulous and actually works!!!!
- Paw Prosper – Is your one-stop shop for everything from Canine Fitness gear, Help-Em Up Harnesses, K9 Wheelchairs, accessories for Blind Dogs, to Sleepy Pod restrain system for cars!
